Race across the world kicks off tonight: meet the five new teams
The 2026 season of Race Across The World launches tonight at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer, promising a fresh wave of personal journeys and fierce competition across 12,000km. This year's lineup introduces five entirely new pairs, each with unique connections and motivations for tackling the grueling challenge.
Cousins puja and roshni
Cousins Puja, 31, a doctor, and 32-year-old Roshni, a software engineer, are embarking on the adventure after both feeling the pull to prioritize experiences over career advancement. Puja described reaching a “career block” and a desire to create lasting memories. Their decision to join was a deliberate choice to reconnect and forge new experiences together.
Mark and margo
Adding a layer of familial complexity, retired architect Mark, 66, is racing alongside his sister-in-law Margo, 59, a hypnotherapist. Their participation is deeply personal, fulfilling a final wish of Mark's late wife, Julia, who encouraged the pair to maintain their bond after Julia's illness. The journey is a tribute to a cherished friendship.
Katie and harrison
Siblings Katie, 21, an account manager, and Harrison, 23, a finance assistant, are making a surprising appearance. Their entry was prompted by their mother, who sent them the application link. Harrison admitted to being a long-time fan of the show, while it took some persuading to convince Katie to join. The siblings are eager to showcase more than just their corporate personas.
Andrew and molly
Geography teacher Andrew, 54, is traveling with his 23-year-old daughter, Molly, a junior doctor. Andrew applied on a whim while Molly was focused on her final exams, a decision he now calls “a joke gone too far.” He hopes to demonstrate a different side of himself to those who know him as an educator.
Kush and jo
The youngest duo in the race, 19-year-old Kush and 19-year-old Jo, are childhood best friends. Kush, currently on a gap year, initiated the application after spotting it on Instagram, and Jo’s immediate “Yeah, sound” sealed their fate. Their youthful energy offers a compelling contrast to the seasoned competitors.
The new season promises dramatic landscapes, physical and mental endurance tests, and deeply personal stories. The race begins tonight, and the world will be watching.
