Kardashian tan commandments: inside the secret to a flawless fake glow
Isabel Alysa, the Hollywood tanning guru behind Kylie Jenner’s signature glow, is in a relentless race to deliver that coveted, airbrushed look. From Kim’s spray-tan emergencies to Selena Gomez’s consistent radiance, Alysa’s expertise is in high demand.
Decoding the illusion: alysa’s top tips for a streak-free summer
Forget the guesswork. Alysa, founder of the TikTok-fueled Dolce Glow, isn’t sharing vague advice. She’s dispensing hard-won wisdom gleaned from years of perfecting the art of sunless tanning. The most fundamental rule? Shaving the day before is a fundamental mistake. It creates those infuriating streaks that ruin any illusion of a natural tan.
“The exfoliation process reveals fresh skin, and that skin absorbs the self-tanner at a much higher rate, leading to uneven results,” Alysa explained. “Seriously, wait at least three days after shaving before applying – it’s a simple precaution that yields massive results.”
Beyond shaving, Alysa stresses the importance of a minimalist pre-tan shower. “Ditch the heavy soaps and gel washes,” she advises. “The residue can cling to your skin, disrupting the even distribution of the DHA – that’s dihydroxyacetone, the key ingredient – and causing patches.”
Alysa’s approach is deeply rooted in understanding skin chemistry. DHA, she explains, reacts with the proteins in your skin’s outer layer to create that bronzed effect, mimicking the results of sun exposure without the harmful UV rays. But certain areas – elbows, knees, hands, and feet – are notorious for absorbing pigment more aggressively, leading to darker patches.
Her solution? Strategic application. “Use significantly less product on those areas, or simply avoid them altogether during the initial application. A lighter tanning mist can be a game-changer for hands and feet,” Alysa suggests. “And for hands, a ‘bear claw’ technique – spraying in circular motions with your fingers slightly spread – is crucial to prevent stained palms and unsightly streaks.”
“When you’re lying in the sun, you don’t have your arms fully extended,” Alysa notes, emphasizing the importance of mimicking natural tan patterns. “A natural tan is always lighter on the inner sides of the arms. A self-tanner should reflect that asymmetry.”
And a little insider tip, courtesy of Kim Kardashian herself: “I spray her hair part as well.” This seemingly minor detail, Alysa reveals, contributes to a seamless, believable glow that appears entirely natural from all angles.
