A spirited beginning
It all started with a shared appreciation for mezcal, ignited by Paul’s decades-long passion. After Breaking Bad, they realized they missed each other and, crucially, the creative spark of working together. Dos Hombres, their spirits company, was born – a deliberate attempt to bridge the gap and explore a new frontier.
Crafting the spirit
“We go see the agave growth, listen to [the production team’s] ideas and concerns, and dream about the future,” Paul explained. This isn't just about creating a product; it’s about a deeply considered, almost reverential approach. Cranston emphasizes the commitment to purity: “We just expanded our ambition, and this was kind of a no brainer for us, despite knowing there’s a lot more competition in the tequila space. But we feel we have a really superior brand. There is no additives and no flavoring. It’s just volcanic spring water and cooked agave, and that’s it. We’re never going to dilute it with anything else.”
A legacy of precision
That dedication echoes their approach to crafting Dos Hombres’ Blanco and Reposado tequilas. They’ve partnered with Maestro Tequilero Julio Cova and Tequilera TAP Distillery, ensuring a meticulous process—a reflection of the same intensity they brought to Breaking Bad. “It’s such a labor of love,” Cranston admits. “Bryan and I have never taken a salary on this endeavor.”
Beyond the bottle
While the tequila is undoubtedly the star, the duo’s friendship remains the driving force. They’re still holding out hope for a return to the screen, patiently awaiting the “perfect project.” Paul, currently portraying Powerplex in Invincible and starring in the video game Dispatch, and Cranston, reprising his role as Griffin Mill in The Studio, continue to build their individual careers, but the possibility of another shared performance hangs tantalizingly in the air. “We’re both passionate about it, and hope that people give it a shot,” Paul stated.
A spicy secret
And their tequila isn't just good; it’s infused with a touch of their signature flair. They favor spicy margaritas, advocating for “any kind of spice or herbs should enhance the spirit. It shouldn’t overpower the drink.” The key, according to Cranston, is subtlety: “It should be a suggestion. It should be very subtle.”
